TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – After clinching the Tallahassee Regional title, the No. 9 Florida State softball team (48-12) needed to wait until Sunday evening to find out its future in the 2015 NCAA Championships. With a 3-1 victory over Utah to win its regional, No. 8 Tennessee (45-14) will host the Seminoles in the 2015 NCAA Knoxville Super Regional starting on Thursday May 21.
The best-of-three series is at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium on the campus of the University of Tennessee, starting at 7 p.m. on May 21. Game two will begin at 4 p.m. on May 22, with game three (if necessary) starting at 7 p.m. All three games of the NCAA Knoxville Super Regional will be aired on the ESPN family of networks. Thursday’s game will be shown on ESPN while Friday’s first game will air on ESPNU. Game three would be shown on ESPN2.
Florida State and Tennessee played earlier this season with the Volunteers defeating the Seminoles by a score of 4-1 on February 19 at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic in Palm Springs, Calif.
This three game Super Regional series is the first time FSU has played in Knoxville and the first time the two school have played at a non-neutral site. The Noles and Volunteers have met two other times before this season – in 2006 and 2008 at the NFCA Leadoff Classic in Columbus, Ga. Tennessee won each game, 1-0 in 2006 and 8-5 in 2008. It's the third straight season the Noles have advanced to the Super Regionals.
