THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WTXL) - For the Night Hawks from Thomas University, big changes are on the horizon. Some have already happened, while others are on the way.
"Across the athletic departments we've been doing a lot of improvements," said Athletic Director Mike Lee. "New soccer fields, we're going to have our own softball field, and what we're doing out here at baseball, it's been a process and we're finally seeing the end of the process."
The baseball facility upgrades, which include new bleachers, will be done in a week. Soon, the Night Hawks will boast one of NAIA's best athletic facilities, and at the end of the day, it's all about the growth of a great University.
"It's a great recruiting tool, you know, that our facilities are equitable or better than everybody else's," added Lee. "That's where the kids want to go."
"The student athletes come here, they want to win, so having a top notch facility, and having what they need to do that and be successful, is key," said Sports Information Director Tanner Ives.
There's no question, the benefits far out weigh the cost and construction, and this is only the beginning.
"This is a big step, but it is just a first step," said Lee. "We've got plenty after this. We're looking for a lot of improvement in the future."
"The new President has big plans for this place, and like you said, I think it's just the start over here," said Ives.
Construction on the softball field will begin after this upcoming season, and the plan for the new soccer field will be to hopefully host a game next season.
