TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — After making its historic run through the WCWS elimination bracket and culminating in the first NCAA National Championship in school history, the Florida State Seminoles close out the 2018 season as the No. 1 team in the country in both the NFCA and USA Softball polls.

It is the ninth time in school history that the Noles are the top team in the NFCA poll and just the second time that FSU is the nation’s best team according to USA Softball.

Florida State finished with 797 and 30 first-place votes in the NFCA poll, while No. 2 Washington and No. 6 Oregon split the final two first-place votes. It marked the first time since 2012 that the National Champion did not receive all 32 of the votes from the NFCA. The Noles tallied 500 points and all 20 first-place votes in the USA Softball poll.

The Seminoles earned a total of six wins against three different teams that were ranked No. 1 by the NFCA at some point this season, with two each against Washington, Oregon and UCLA.

Florida State tallied 10 wins against six of the top 10 teams in the 2018 final poll – No. 2 Washington, No. 3 UCLA, No. 5 Florida, No. 6 Oregon, No. 8 Georgia and No. 9 LSU – along with 20 overall wins against the entire final Top 25.

It is the second time ever, matching California in 2002, that the NCAA National Champion has not had a member of the NFCA All-America First Team, as the 2018 Seminoles placed two members on the Second Team – Kylee Hanson and Jessie Warren – along with NFCA Third Team All-American Sydney Sherrill.
