GREENSBORO, N.C. – Miami catcher Zack Collins has been named the Baseball American National Freshman of the Year, announced Monday. A total of five ACC players were named Baseball America Freshman All-Americans.
The 2014 ACC Freshman of the Year, Collins also was previously named the Freshman Hitter of the Year by the NCBWA, and was selected as a Freshman All-American by the NCBWA and Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
He is joined on the Freshman All-America First Team by Maryland’s Brandon Lowe and Miami’s Bryan Garcia. Maryland’s Mike Shawaryn and NC State’s Andrew Knizner were named to the second team.
Seven ACC student-athletes collected a combined 17 Freshman All-America honors from Baseball America, Louisville Slugger, and the NCBWA.
