TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - The Madison County softball team was supposed to board a bus Tuesday to head to Vero Beach for the Class 1A State Final Four.
Mother Nature? She had other ideas. Impending rain forced the Florida High School Athletic Association to completely move the tournament to next week.
Now, the Cowgirls must wait. Until then, they have a little more practice time to prep for that Final Four showdown with Trenton. Madison is looking for their first state title in program history.
These girls fell to Mayo in the district championship a few weeks back and since then? They've found new life, and they are ready to go compete for a Championship.
"I think we're peaking at the right time," said head coach Tommy Garner. "It was actually a blessing to us not to win the District and face Mayo. They've had are number all year. We went down and probably had our best game of the season against Union County, and then was able to advance by beating Hilliard. It's awesome. They've worked really hard all year to get here and we're excited to go down there."
Madison County faces Trenton Monday at 2:20. Aucilla Christian faces Master's Acdemy Monday morning at 10:35.
The Madison County baseball team looks to punch their ticket to the State Finals Tuesday night and avenge last year's loss in the 1A title game. The 'Boys face a familiar foe in Lafayette Tuesday night. Two rivals, meeting for the fourth time this year, and the Cowboys are ready to hit the field.
"To know that you get to play your cross line rival, for a shot to go to the state, that adds a little fuel to the fire," said head coach Jason Fletcher. "Mayo is tough, they are scrappy. Coach Hanson does a great job over there and I think our kids are looking forward too it."
That Madison County-Lafayette game set for a 7:00 start time at Madison Tuesday night, the winner heads to Fort Myers for the State Finals.
