FORT MYERS, Fl. (WTXL) - The Madison County baseball team made history this year, but fell short of their ultimate goal in winning a State Championship.
The Cowboys led Trenton 2-1 until the fifth inning, when the Tigers scored two unearned runs to take the lead.
Madison County left a runner on third in the bottom of the seventh inning, losing a heart breaker 3-2.
"To lose by a run, three unearned runs, is a tough one," said head coach Terry Barrs after the game. "These guys played hard all year, they made history this year. Never been to the State Championship, never been to the State Finals. I've never been. I'm proud of these guys. They've done something for me I've never accomplished in all the years I've been at Madison. I'm very proud of these guys. They just came up on the short end."
The Cowboys graduate just three seniors from this team.
