TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Thursday was day two of the regular signing period for all sports but football, and like on day one, a lot of high school seniors put pen to paper.
At Maclay School in Tallahassee, Katie Whitworth signed a scholarship to run track and cross country for the Division I Mercer Bears. Whitworth has had a stellar career at Maclay, most recently, she led the Marauders to a Class 1A State Runner-up finish at this year's Cross Country Finals.
Of her signing? Whitworth said it still hasn't hit her she will get to run in college.
"Not quite yet!" she laughed. "Maybe in August once I move in to the dorms it might, but it's so surreal right now. I'm so excited! Mercer is three hours from home. I absolutely love the campus. It's a small D1 school and everything about it was just absolutely perfect. Plus, my great Aunt lives in Macon, so it's like the perfect place."
Whitworth said she plans on studying business.
