TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Maclay girls and boys track and field teams ran away with the Class 1A District 3 Championship last week. The team now has their sights set on Regionals next week, but on Wednesday, it was all about celebrating the future, as Darin Meeker inked a college scholarship.
Meeker, a pole vaulter, signed a track and field scholarship with Colorado School of Mines, a Division II program that competes in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.
Meeker finished 3rd in the state last season in Class 1A in the pole vault, and has competed in the Junior Olympics. He said he's excited to continue competing at the next level.
"It feels amazing that I get this opportunity to do what I love and practically get paid to go to college, do my education and do what I love still so it's great," he said on Wednesday. "It's a great school, and they have a great track and field program which fits my criteria and my desires for a school."
Meeker said he plans on studying engineering.
