TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - A big part of why Maclay sports teams are some of the most competitive in the state is because of what goes on beyond the field.
The Marauder weight room received an upgrade over Christmas break. Thanks in part to Maclay boosters, Marauder athletes have some brand new equipment to work out on.
It was a pricey investment, but one spent with a lot of pride.
"I was very ecstatic, especially being a weightlifter, seeing new weights - it's nice!" laughed senior Elgin Rhymes.
"It's not like we had a bad weightroom, we had a very good weightroom," added Athletic Director Jake von Scherrer. "They come in they see this, they see this commitment. Not just football players, our girl athletes, our lacrosse players, our baseball players, it just gives them that extra motivation."
There are still a few pieces that need to be added, but athletes will start using the weightroom on Wednesday.
