TALLAHASSEE (WTXL) - Area soccer players took their typical outdoor sport inside this week at an indoor futsol camp. Futsol is soccer, but with a smaller ball that doesn't bounce, making it ideal to be played indoors.
The air conditioning, obviously nice in the heat, and that's what Andy Warner of Warner Soccer says makes the sport so appealing in the summer months.
Five players are on each team, and the court is the same size as an American basketball court, and Warner said while the kids appreciate the cooler air, their outdoor soccer coaches will appreciate the new skills learned.
"Transfer wise, it's just a thousand more touches on the ball," he said. "You're active all the time, and because of the distance, you're really learning to think quicker, technically control the ball and pass the ball quicker. We really look at technical speed to be improved and really your mental speed, thinking faster. So that's really the two real bonuses of indoor futsol."
Warner added that attendance at the camp is up, and he attributes that to more broadcasts of the sport, and the Women's World Cup win, doesn't hurt either.
