TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - High school basketball is just heating up across South Georgia and North Florida, and the Godby Cougars look to defend their Class 5A State Championship this season. There's a lot of games left to be played though until February, and on Tuesday night, the Cougars looked for a win over Chiles.
The Cougars outscored the Timberwolves 20-2 in the first quarter, and despite a strong comeback by Chiles in the 4th quarter, Godby went on to win 65-47.
At Maclay School, the Marauders hosted John Paul II in a 3A District 1 match-up. JP2 led early, but thanks to Kyle McWilliams 23 points, and a 19-0 run in the 4th quarter, Maclay ran away with the win 54-36.
At Florida A&M DRS, the Baby Lady Rattlers cruised to a 67-39 victory over Lincoln to improve to 5-0 on the year. The defending Class 2A State Champions were led by Jazmine Jones, who had 28 points, 18 rebounds, and four assists.
On the pitch, Lincoln hosted Chiles in a 4A District 2 match-up. Colin Smith scored in the 31st minute to put Chiles up 1-0, and that's all they needed to get the win.
