TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Lincoln, Leon, and Chiles football teams took the field Monday night in a tiebreaker to determine a District Champion and Runner-up.
Leon and Lincoln faced off first, playing a quarter to decide who moved on to face Chiles. Leon scored first, but the Trojans of Lincoln fought back, tacking on a field goal, and then scoring a touchdown to win 10-7.
Chiles then faced Lincoln for a quarter, with the Timberwolves scoring first on a Landon Simpkins to John Mitchell touchdown. Lincoln tacked on two off a safety, then scored on a touchdown run to take the 8-7 lead. The Lincoln defense pulled through, stopping Chiles to win the District Championship.
"We played one of the toughest schedules in the state and in the country," said Lincoln head coach Yusuf Shakir after the quarter. "I knew it would pay off. I knew we had great support from our fan base and family. They knew if we stayed together we would win."
Chiles beat Leon 7-3 in a third quarter of play to finish District Runner-up.
