TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - Erin Turral has been a stand-out in the Tallahassee hoops circuit since her sixth grade season at FAMU DRS, winning back to back to back State Championships. As a freshman at Lincoln last year, she led the Trojans to the State Final Four, averaging 28 points her game.
In her sophomore year, she's pulling nearly 33 points per game. Her efforts have been recognized Nationally, as Erin is a finalist for both USA Today and Gatorade Player of the Year honors.
Those honors cap off a summer where she was invited to tryout for Team USA's 16 and under squad. Turral is a young lady of few words, but she said the experience has been humbling, but she's really just focused on playing basketball, and everything else? She's just taking in stride.
"I just don't worry about the accolades," she said. "I just keep working out really because I don't want to think about it so I can stay humble and just keep going."
"Getting that recognition is driving her everyday to see what's next," said head coach Rod Mack. "I'm doing this as a sophomore, what can I do next? It's become more of a challenge and a goal to see what can I top what I've done already?"
Mack said Turral should learn if she earned Player of the Year honors from both USA Today and Gatorade within the next couple of months.
