TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Several area girls basketball teams hit the floor Thursday night looking for District Championships. At Chiles High School, Lincoln looked for their second straight District crown, as they faced Leon for the 7A-2 championship.
Lincoln led by nine midway through the fourth quarter, and held on to win 59 to 49 despite a strong Leon comeback. Head Coach Rod Mack notes that his team has bigger goals this season, but a second straight title is something to be happy about.
"I'm very proud of them," he said after the win. "They worked all summer, they came in the preseason and they conditioned, lifted weights. They believed in the system and they knew that they could do this again and go further, and make history."
In Class 3A, Maclay and North Florida Christian squared off for the District 1 title, with NFC staking claim, winning 43-36. District tournaments wrap up Saturday night for girls teams in the Big Bend.
