TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The race to a State Championship began this week for girls basketball teams in the state of Florida with District Tournaments. In Class 8A, rivals Lincoln and Leon squared off for the District Two title.
A win for Lincoln would give the Lady Trojans their third straight District Championship, and the ladies, got it done, beating Leon 51-43.
"Once you've gotten three of them, you get to the point where if you don't walk away with a State Championship, a District Championship almost doesn't mean as much as it used to when I first started coaching," said head coach Rod Mack. "We always realize that at this point, it's not the end for us. We want to keep pushing. We have other goals outside of winning a District Championship. We want to not stop tonight."
In Class 5A, the Florida High ladies faced last year's State Semifinalist Gadsden for the District Two title. Thanks to Sarah McCrackin's 16 points and 15 rebounds, the Florida High Seminoles came away with the 58-37 win.
