TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Lincoln High School was established in 1975. In forty-plus years of athletics, they've seen three State Championships in football, a State title in boys soccer, and deep runs in baseball and lacrosse.
Boys basketball? Never, that is, until this weekend. For the first time in school history, the boys made it to Lakeland for the State Final Four. This Trojan team is making history, but they're not done yet. The ultimate goal is to bring home a Class 7A State Championship.
Lincoln plays St. Petersburg Friday in the Class 7A State Semifinals, and on Thursday, the guys got a warm send-off from their peers. While this is the team's first trip, head coach Dimitric Salters has been to Lakeland three times before, all with East Gadsden.
"They're just more excited about the opportunity to go," he said about his current team. "It's another game, it's round thirty for us. We do rounds. Round thirty. We got to win round thirty. Again, continue to play good basketball."
Friday's match-up tips at 10 a.m. If they win, they will play Saturday for the State Championship.
