TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - Baseball was on the agenda last week, and it's on the agenda this week. It's State Tournament Central in the Big Bend, and the Levy Park 9U All-Stars are the first team to celebrate a State title.
Levy Park beat Ft. Caroline 8-7 Monday morning in extra innings to claim the Cal Ripken State Tournament title. The guys now gear up for Regionals, which is in two weeks in North Carolina.
The Babe Ruth State Tournament kicks off this week in the Capital City, with the 13's, 14's, and 15's all looking to celebrate State titles and inch closer to a Regional and World Series Championship.
They have to win this weekend to move on, and the Tallahassee-Leon 14's are extra motivated - they came in second at the World Series last summer. The guys had their first practice as one unit Monday, and they're excited to play, and hopefully celebrate, on their home turf.
"You could tell on the first round of infield, outfield that they were trying to throw the ball as hard as they could across the diamond," said head coach Mike Harrison. "It's really nice for the families to come see their kids, they don't have to travel, they sleep in their won beds. Friends and family can come watch, it's free of charge. Anybody can come watch and just enjoy good baseball."
Games are free of charge to attend.
