TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Leon Lion volleyball team had quite the 2015 season. They won Districts, then their Region, and were two wins away from bringing home the Class 7A State Championship. So, what else could make this year sweeter? Signing a college scholarship.

On Wednesday afternoon at Leon High School, that is exactly what senior libero Elyse Thompson did, as she signed a scholarship with Emory University.

Thompson, a three year member of the Lions Varsity team, led the squad in digs with 277 this season, while serving up 38 aces.

Why Emory? Thompson said it's the perfect balance of academics and athletics, and she can't wait to suit up for another four years.

"Saying goodbye to a sport that I love, I'm just not ready for it, so that's why I'm so excited to be able to go pursue my passion at Emory," she said Wednesday. "How many people can say that they've worked for something for four years and gotten there? That's why I'm so fortunate and so lucky to of had so much support to get there. It was really all the people around me more so then myself. Everyone else made me, and helped me, get to where I am."

Thompson said she plans on studying math, and later something in the medical field.
