TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - When it comes to competition, there's nothing that Leon senior Emma McGibany shys away from.
"She competitive probably walking down the street with somebody," laughed Leon's head girls soccer coach Tony Kidd. "She probably wouldn't want you to get in front of her."
As competitive as McGibany is just walking down the street, she's just as fierce in the classroom. She has a 4.54 GPA, and is ranked second in her senior class.
"I grew up where academics was always number one, so that's always been an extreme priority," she said. "I just do my best, to be honest!"
"She's an all around leader, all around player, all around athlete, a student athlete and she embodies a student athlete," added Kidd. "She's the heart and soul of our team and we've really enjoyed her for four years."
The heart and soul of a team that's young, but led by McGibany, they are competitive and ready to work.
"This year, we have to work a lot harder because we don't have the same team we did the last three years," she said. "This year I'm looking inward to be a leader."
"Hard work, hard work, which we try to instill in our younger players," said Kidd. "They don't realize it until they see a player like Emma and realize that's what it takes to get to the level she's at."
The level she's at? College signee. McGibany is Appalachian State bound, and of her time as a Lion? She hopes she's left her legacy in her work ethic.
''Part of that balance is working harder than you think you can."
Working hard even if you're just walking down the street.
