Leon, Florida High Fall In Regional Finals; Maclay Moves On

MIDWAY, Fla. (WTXL) - Three wins is all a high school boys soccer team in the state of Florida needs to take home a State Championship trophy next week. On Tuesday, three Big Bend squads battled in their respective Regional Finals, the goal? To inch closer to State.

In Class 4A, Leon faced Fleming Island for the Region One Championship. The two were tied 2-2, when the Golden Eagles scored off a corner kick with less then five minutes to play, sealing up the win and eliminating Leon from the postseason.

In Class 2A, the Florida High Seminoles were on the road at Bishop Kenny. The Noles took a 2-0 lead early, but the Bishop Kenny rallied, scoring two goals in the final twenty minutes, then winning 3-1 on penalty kicks. Florida High finishes the season 20-4-2.

In Class 1A, the Maclay Marauders avenged last year's Elite Eight loss to Orangewood Christian, picking up the 1-0 win. Maclay advances to Friday's Class 1A State Final Four, where they will face Community School in Naples.
