TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Next Wednesday, February 3rd is National Signing Day. This week, the calm before the storm, but still, a lot of excitement in the air.
Junior college signings are taking place this week, and at Leon High School, Lion softball player Jensen Strickland, made things official with Pensacola State College.
Strickland has suited up for the Lions since her freshman season, starting at pitcher. She earned All Big Bend Player of the Year Honors her sophomore campaign. Throughout five seasons of travel ball, Strickland's maintained at 1.1 ERA and a .480 batting average, and of getting to live her dream of playing college ball? She couldn't be more happy.
"This has definitely been a goal of mine and to actually put pen to paper and have it be official, it's super exciting," she said Tuesday. "I don't have the words to describe how it feels. It's truly amazing and I'm incredibly blessed."
At Lincoln High School, two Trojan soccer stand-outs signed with NAIA colleges. Ian Ward, a midfielder, signed with Thomas University, while teammate Josh Monda inked with Emmanuel College in North Georgia, and both agree they're excited to play at the next level.
"I thank my friends and my family, especially my family for taking me everywhere I needed to go, everything I needed to do," said Ward. "This is all because of them. I thank them a lot."
"Back in the day, I didn't think this would really happen," added Monda. "I just want to thank my parents and thank all the coaches that pushed me to do my best. Just thanks to everybody."
