TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – For the first time in several years, Florida State fans this fall will be able to line the walkways outside Doak Campbell Stadium and greet the Seminoles as they exit their team busses and make their way to the locker room.
The new tradition, introduced by coach Willie Taggart and dubbed the “Legacy Team Walk,” will make its debut before the Seminoles home opener against Virginia Tech and continue throughout the rest of the season.
Each Legacy Team Walk will take place 2 ½ hours before kickoff. The walk starts at the Heritage Tower Fountain (near Dick Howser Stadium) and will proceed into Doak Campbell Stadium through Gate K.
Along with the Legacy Team Walk comes a variety of new tailgating options that allow for Seminoles fans to make the most of their game days.
The Coca-Cola Tailgate Zone, which debuted last season, returns with a new location closer to the Legacy Team Walk. The turnkey tailgate experience is admission-only, open to the public and provides food, drinks, access to restrooms and plenty of TV real estate to catch college football games from around the nation.
And for fans looking to get even closer to the Seminoles before the game, there will be all-inclusive VIP tailgate spaces in close proximity to the Legacy Team Walk.
Both the Coca-Cola Tailgate Zone and the VIP Tailgates will open five hours prior to kickoff.
The new pre-game traditions and tailgate spaces add to what is shaping up to be a memorable season-opener in Tallahassee.
Not only will the Seminoles start their campaign against a nationally-recognized conference opponent in Virginia Tech, but they’ll also take the field for the first time under Taggart, who last December was named the program’s third head coach since 1976.
Then, at halftime, FSU fans can cheer for an all-time great Seminole when Peter Warrick, a two-time All-America receiver and 1999 national champion, returns to Doak Campbell Stadium to see his No. 9 jersey retired.
Tailgate lots open at noon, and FSU on Sunday will host a special edition of its Friday Night Block Party, which will feature a free concert from country music star Walker Hayes.
Fewer than 5,000 tickets remain for the Seminoles’ home opener. Tickets in both the main stadium bowl and the Champions Club are available here.
