Fort Myers, Fla. (WTXL) - For just the second time in school history, the Lafayette Hornet baseball team took the field in a State Championship game. In 1991, they lost. On Thursday night, the Hornets took the field in the Class 1A State Championship game against Chiefland, and this time, they looked to bring home their first State title.
Mayo broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second inning thanks to a Kayne Hurst RBI single to centerfield, and they didn't look back. Mason Herring added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth, and Zach Yeager shut it down from there, ending the game on a strikeout to seal up the 2-0 win over the Indians.
