MAYO, Fla. (WTXL) - Opening night for high school baseball is just around the corner, and all eyes will be on the Lafayette Hornets, who are looking to repeat as 1A State Champions.

The Hornets opened preseason play on Monday, and picked up a 6-3 win over Bell. A good start for the Hornets, but at this point in the season, it's all about staying grounded.

"Coming into this, we definitely tried to make them understand that they have not proven anything yet this year," head coach Tim Hanson said Monday. "The honor of going to a State Championship and winning, that's something they will always have. This year's a whole different year, and they've bought into that already."

The bullseye is big for the Hornets, who open their season February 20th at home against Dixie County.
