Lady Rattlers drop a pair in the Hatter Classic

DELAND, Fla. (Feb. 23)  - The Florida A&M Softball team dropped a pair of games today as they fell to Dartmouth University, 6-2 in game one and was blanked 11-0 by Stetson University, the Hatter Classic, here Saturday afternoon at Patricia Wilson Field.
 
Against DU, FAMU tallied five hits in the contest as Ashanti Shepherd finished with a game high two hits.
 
DU finished the contest with six hits as six batters for the Big Green finished with one hit each.
 
Kristen Rumley (2-0) picked up the win for DU as she pitched seven innings, allowing five hits, two earned runs and striking out four in the 27 batters she faced, while Jennifer Lindsey (1-7) received the loss for FAMU as she gave up four hits and three earned runs in four innings in the circle for the Lady Rattlers.
 
The Big Green plated three runs in the top of the first as on a Hillary Hubert bases clearing double, scoring Morgan McCalmon, Kriste Rumley and Kara Curosh.
 
FAMU picked a run in the bottom of the sixth to cut DU’s lead to 3-1 as Shepherd scored on a Raven Moseley sacrifice fly to right field.
 
DU scored three more runs in the top of the seventh inning on a two-run homer by Katie McEachern and Lohmann scoring on an FAMU infielder’s error, giving the Big Green a 6-1 lead.
 
The Lady Rattlers picked on more run in the bottom of the seventh Kieifi Myrick, who tripled to lead off the inning, scored on an Alyssa Weaver ground out to second base for the 6-2 final.   
 
Against Stetson, the Lady Rattlers tallied two hits, while SU punched out 13 in the contest. 
 
Both Robbielyn Robberson and Weaver finished with one hit each for the Lady Rattlers, while the Hatters had five batters to finish with two hits each for SU.
 
Meredith Owens (5-1) got the win for SU as she gave up two hits, and striking out three in five innings of work, while Ashleigh Minter (1-3) received the loss for FAMU as she gave up six hits, seven earned runs in the seven batters she faced.
 
SU scored took the early lead as they scored seven runs in the bottom of the first, one run in the second and three runs in the fourth for the 11-0 finale.
 
FAMU broke up the no-hitter in the top of the second inning as both Robberson singled to the left side and Weaver with a hit up the middle.
The Lady Rattlers lower their record to 3-11 on the season and will return to action on Friday, March 1 as they will face Drake University in their first game of the Florida Lipton Invitational in Gainesville in an 11 a.m. start.
