MOULTRIE, Ga. (WTXL) - The Colquitt County Lady Packers hit the field on Friday morning with a shot to win the first 12U State Championship in county history.

The girls faced off with East Point in the Georgia Parks and Recreation State Tournament, and in the fifth inning, Abby Plymel came through to give the Pack the lead. The Lady Packers closed it out in the 6th inning to hang on for the win.

"This right here is kind of special,"  coach James Horne said.  "We are out here on our home field. It will be first 12U youth fastpitch championship in Moultrie history.  Alot of this same team won it as ten and under and some of them two years in a row, but being the first 12U youth fastpitch is pretty special."

During the postgame interview the team dumped a celebratory bucket of water on coach Horne's head.

"That's cold, I don't know if I can even talk after that," Horne said.   "We kept battling and this team right here probably pushed us more than any team has all year."

Down the street, the Midget Traditional Colquitt Gold Baseball team topped Twin City 9-4. They will play for the State Championship on Saturday morning.
