MONTICELLO, Fl. (WTXL) - The Jefferson County Tigers are 4 and 2 on the season, and sit atop the 1-A Region 2 Rankings.
"As a team we want to win State, that's our number one goal," said senior quarterback Josh Aiken. "We want to go out there and win State."
Behind the arm of Aiken, the Tigers are well on their way, and for him, transferring in for his senior year, was a decision he's happy he made.
"I knew it was going to be fun and exciting. It's been a blast," he smiled. "I haven't expected a lot of things to happen that have happened, it's been a real blessing."
"You have to gain the locker room especially as a quarterback," said head coach Leroy Smith. "Your team has to trust you, but I think by Josh being himself, that's why the guys trust him."
Trust on, and off, the field, as Aiken has a 4.28 GPA.
"He has a great awareness of time. He manages times well," said Smith. "When it's time for practice, he's in tune with practice. When it's time for his studies, he's in tune with that. When it's time to be a leader, he's in tune with that."
"If you want to be great at anything, you have to make time for it. It's a challenge trying to make time for everything, but when you really want it, you'll find a way to do it," added Aiken. "This is an amazing game, but it's just a game. Everyone will have their final day, and when that day comes, you have to be able to go back and find a job."
Aiken's job now? Get Jefferson County into the postseason, and continue their push to Orlando.
"I just want us all to get a ring at the end of the year," he said.
A ring with Aiken helping to lead the way.
