TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - It's an exciting time to be a Florida A&M Rattler. Come September 1st, the Rattlers will not be playing on the current grass inside Bragg for their season opener. Field turf is coming to the stadium, and the University is excited about the future.
The cost of the project? Around $800,000, but the University will save money in maintenance on the field. There's also the potential for revenue, as the field can be used year round.
Netting, goal posts, and fan zones are also being included in the updates, and everyone is ready for the changes.
"I think it's a win win for all of us," said Athletic Director Dr. John Eason. "With a new coach that's coming in that's noted for his offense, being in the state of Florida where speed is in abundance, and putting those two together in Tallahassee at Bragg Stadium I think is a win win for all of us."
"We're committed to bringing top notch facilities here to the Hill," added head football coach Willie Simmons. "I think this is the first step in a long line of upgrades to this place to show the students, to show alumni, to show prospective student athletes that we want to compete on a National level and we want to have the faculties to back it up."
The estimated finish date for the project is August the 15th.
