Leftover holiday food may taste great, but it spoils the same as other foods, leaving you at risk of food poisoning
According to the Mayo Clinic, most food poisoning cases are preventable with proper food handling-
Perishable foods, like meat, poultry, fish, dairy and eggs should be refrigerated quickly.
Because not all contaminated food smells, looks or feels bad, it may be difficult to detect if it is tainted.
"Bacteria will start to grow on anything," Said Brandy Robbins, R.N., Director of Nursing Services of Pines of Sarasota, "So it's imperative that you get that food either into the refrigerator or put in the freezer as soon as possible."
Food should not sit out for more than one hour at temperatures above 90-degrees.
But, when you are ready to eat leftovers, reheat them on the stove, in the oven or microwave until the internal temperature reaches 165-degrees.
