THOMAS COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) — Thomas County Central's Allie Ann Wheeler always wanted to be a Georgia Bulldog, and on Tuesday, her dream became a reality.

Wheeler signed with the Bulldogs equestrian team, celebrating her accomplishments as a Yellow Jacket and solidifying her next chapter after high school.

It was a day filled with emotions and relief for Wheeler to know she'll have a place to continue her passion.

"I have always been a Dog; my family has always loved Dogs," said Wheeler. "When I got this email to call the coach, I was thrilled I was so happy. It's just always been my dream school. I'm so excited about that."

At Mitchell County, Eagles' star point guard Derrick Harris is headed to Georgia Southern, making history as just the second Eagle ever to sign a full-ride scholarship to a Divison I basketball program.

The McDonald's All-American finalist hopes that this new journey is just the beginning.

"I'm truly blessed to have a family like I have, everyone I have, my family, my mentors, everyone," said Harris. "I always wanted to sign my line to go play basketball and reach my next level, and I think it's a great start for me. Hopefully, I can do one or two and go straight to the League, but we'll see."

Congratulations Allie Ann and Derrick!
