THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WTXL) — On Tuesday, a Thomasville High School student-athlete signed on to play baseball at the University of Southern Mississippi. Hurston Waldrep who is the kicker for the football team and a pitcher for the baseball team will pitch next year as a golden eagle.

Waldrep has been playing on the diamond since he was 6 years old. He explained that the coaches at Southern Miss have been talking with him for over a year and that the school felt right. "The program is great," said Waldrep. "I really got a chance to go see everything, go see the school. A great school. I got to see a football game, I got to hang out with some of the players. It seems like a really nice place, it was really homey. The coaches really convinced me that they were going to take care of me. I put my all in them and I really like the place and the program."

The baseball player still has to focus on football right now though. Waldrep and his fellow bulldogs host Pepperell this Friday night.
