TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The start date for fall sports in the state of Florida is July 27. That date remains solid but, with the uncertainty of COVID-19, it could change.

The State of Florida assembled a fall sports task force that met for the second time on Wednesday to come up with recommendations for the Florida High School Athletic Association.

Of the many ideas discussed, two stuck.

One was moving the start date for fall sports to no earlier than Monday, August 10, a shift that would also push back the start of play.

The FHSAA also recommended a play with staggered start dates depending on how a specific region is affected by the coronavirus.

FHSAA executive director, George Tomyn, reiterated that no plan has been accepted and the July 27 start date remains. The FHSAA also stated that a State Championship for any sport is not guaranteed at this time.

There is no word on when a final decision by the FHSAA will be made.
