TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - The wait is over for high school football teams in the state of Florida. Monday was day number one of spring practice.

For the Godby Cougars, there are some new faces on the sideline. The head man? A familiar face, as now former Cougar offensive line coach Brandon McCray was promoted to head coach back in February. Key pieces of the Cougar offensive line and defense will need to be replaced, and new schemes need to be learned with two new coordinators.

Still, a lot of excitement for this team, and they're looking to use this spring to get better.

"We're extra ready today. We've had a great off season. The kids have done a great job in the classroom and in the weight room," he said on Monday. "They were very eager to come out here and show what we can do. We just have to get a couple pecan seasons for our offensive line. Defensive line, we have a lot of guys who played a lot of snaps for us that we think will be good for us this year. That's mainly what we need to replace."

Godby will play in the nine team Big Bend Spring football classic Saturday, May 18th at Bragg. They'll face Madison County at 5:00, then Rickards at 6:00.
