MAYO, Fl. (WTXL) - High school football practice rolls on across Florida. In Mayo, there's a new head coach at Lafayette High, as Mark Beach took over the reigns after longtime head coach Joey Pearson stepped away from coaching last month.

Beach was previously the offensive coordinator for the Hornets , and they averaged over 35 points per game since he took over in 2016. This year's group returns without some key skill players, but Beach is excited about the talent they do have returning.

"We have a couple receivers who played a ton in roles last year, and I think I'm going to be solid across the board," he said. "I think they're going to step up. We'll do some stuff defensively a little bit different, but I think we've done a great job this off season in the weight room. These guys have continued to push through and I think that'll make a big, big difference this year."

Lafayette travels to Interlachen for their spring game on May 23rd.
