TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — District Volleyball tournaments crank up this week for teams in the state of Florida with COVID-19, which makes the postseason a little different than last year.

District Champions and Runners-up will advance.

The Leon High volleyball team is looking to repeat as State Champs.

Their journey begins this week when they'll face the winner of Chiles and Lincoln.

The Lions are seasoned vets when it comes to the postseason. This team doesn't know what it's like to not make it to either the final four or the State Championship game.

But they're still a focused group when it comes to this time of year.

"Every year it's always based on what they want," said Angie Strickland, the head volleyball coach at Leon. "It's not based on what I want or what the staff wants. It's what do the players want and are they willing to make all the sacrifices that it takes to get there. And we talk about it. We talk about falling short, we talk about what happens when you do it and everything in between. So we give them and help them visualize what it can be and what it can look like if you're not preparing properly."

We'll have the latest on who gets to lift a trophy this week on ABC 27.
