TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - The Leon High School volleyball team is consistently one of the top teams in the Big Bend. They've been to five straight State Final Fours, and now they'll play for a State title for the second time in three years Friday afternoon.
The Lions lost that state Championship in 2017, this time, they're looking to bring home gold. The Lions face St. Thomas Aquinas in Friday's 6A State title game, and this Leon group is seasoned, they're confident, and they are ready to seal the deal this time around.
"They have led from their heart, they've led with determination," said head coach Angie Strickland after the Lions punched their ticket to the title game Saturday. "That doesn't mean that them and I always agree, but it's not supposed to be like that. They're just leading in a different way. It's a team I've never coahced like this before. They really look up to their seniors and I think they've set this, I know Shania (Cromartie) set this goal from 2017. We talked about that today."
Little fact? These two have already played this year, with Leon winng in five sets back in September. Friday's game is set for a 5:00 start.
