JEFFERSON COUNTY, Fla. — Jefferson County High School's head football coach has been fired.

Leroy Smith was fired Thursday morning, according to Corey Oliver, principal of Somerset Jefferson: a K-12 school.

In a statement to WTXL, Oliver said:

"Jefferson K-12: a Somerset School recently terminated their head football coach, Leroy Smith. We appreciate all of the things Coach Smith did for the children of the community. While we cannot comment on any specifics, we are completely committed to offering the players of Jefferson K-12 a full football program for this upcoming season."

No other information regarding Smith's firing has been made available at this time.

Rodell Thomas will be the interim head coach. He is a dean at Jefferson now and most recently coached at Munroe in Gadsden County.

This is a developing story.
