TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - The Godby Cougars won a District baseball Championship last week, no big deal unless you know their story. The Cougars had just four wins entering that District tournament, but beat Rickards and then Marianna to win the District crown.

Now they have a trophy and home field advantage to show for their hard work. Walton is their Regional quarterfinal opponent Wednesday. Godby scheduled tough opponents all season, and now they're ready to show how that hard work continues to pay off.

"When you play all the big dogs in Tallahassee, you should be able to compete in your District," said head coach Tonayne Brown. "You should be able to go out and win in your District when you play the big guys. It happened late, and I tell them better late than never."

"Seeing how our team came together from a four win team to a team that won a Championship means a lot," said Godby senior Seth Sapp. "It shows our work ethic and how much grit we have."

Godby's Class 5A Regional Quarterfinal match-up with Walton is set for 7:00 on Wednesday.
