TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - Basketball isn't just heating up for college teams, as Monday was day one of practice for Big Bend high school girls teams. FAMU DRS is a regular staple in Lakeland. They've made it to the State Final Four the last nine seasons, and have won six state titles since 2004.
The last two years they've left Lakeland empty handed, and that's something head coach Ericka Cromartie wants to change.
"These girls have been down there twice some of them," she said of her current team. "It's like, how long will you just take the second place or third place. I pray this year they're eager and ready to bring it. I'm tired of going down there and coming back empty. The prayer is to go down there and come back with some hardware this year."
High school teams in Georgia kicks off practice last week, while Florida boys teams begin practice next week.
