TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Chiles head football coach Kevin Pettis has been suspended five games after he was flagged twice and ejected for unsportsmanlike penalties in a make-up game on Monday against Niceville.

Pettis was flagged the first time after he came on the field to argue a call, which came after the Timberwolves recovered an onside kick but were told they had touched the ball before it went 10 yards. He initially started to walk away, but then turned back around and was flagged a second time.

On Wednesday, the FHSAA handed down a five-game suspension against Pettis. Chiles High athletic director Mike Eto said the school is appealing the ruling.

Chiles has two weeks left in the regular season. If the suspension is not completed, it would carry over into next year.
