(WTXL) — The wait is over for fans of high school football. Fall camp is here!
Georgia already a few days in while teams in the Big Bend kicked off non-contact practice Monday morning. Godby High in Tallahassee kicked off at 8 a.m. The Cougars are the first team we're looking at in our 2019 edition of Camp Chat.
Godby coming off a stellar spring, one where their offense shined in their spring jamboree. Quarterback Trey Fisher back behind center while receivers Avery Boyd and Alvin Jones look to lead the way.
The biggest holes they've had to replace from last year's 11 and 1 team? On the line, but head coach Brandon McCray is confident they've done so and he's excited to see what this team can do this fall.
"We started off back in the spring, the kids had a commitment to the classroom and being great men around campus. It carried over to the summer, and these kids were really chomping at the bit to get out here and start practice today," said Brandon McCray. "We got some good senior leadership that came back on both sides. They really brought the young guys along and we're excited about what we're going to do up front this year."
So the real MVP of this Godby team, defensive coordinator Alex Colson, got married Sunday. His new wife made him come to practice.
Godby's fall kickoff game is August 16 when they'll play at Chiles.
