CAIRO, Ga. (WTXL) - In Syrup Country, Cairo kicked off Region play with a win last week, and they're not slowing down anytime soon. The Syrupmakers are on the road at Hardaway for week two of AAAA Region 1 play this Friday night.
Head coach Steve DeVoursney likes the way his team finished last week against Northside, but not the way they started. He said they've been working to correct that this week. A Region title is the goal for the 'Makers, and that quest continues this Friday night.
"You have to win every Region game for a chance to win a region championship and that's what our goal is every year," he said. "If you lose one, you're playing for second pretty much. That's what you have to take one game at a time. Our kids are pretty good at that. We don't look ahead. Team we have that week, we're going to focus on and get ready for them."
Cairo travels to Columbus Friday to face Hardaway. Kick-off is at 7:30.
