Every year, some of the best high school football players from Southwest Georgia and the Big Bend face off for bragging rights in the War of the Border All-Star game.

It also gives these high school seniors one last opportunity to hit the gridiron representing their high schools, and if you think these guys aren't fired up about it, think again.

"Whether they're committed to a school or whether they don't have any offers, I just want them to focus on making a memory," said Brandon McCray, Godby's head football coach and the coach of Team Florida this year. "Don't think about the future right now, just think about this week and having fun with your brothers."

"There's one common denominator of guys who are on All-Star, they love football," said Team Georgia head coach Ashley Henderson, who is the head coach of Thomas County Central. "Time flies when you're having fun like that and when you're around a bunch of guys that love ball. It makes it that much more fun."

"It's fun just being able to play with some kids with some talent, meet new people and get back out here one last time in high school," added Team Georgia quarterback Brantley Shiver.

Playing in a star-studded All-Star game like this one surely attracts college football programs to make any last second offers, and most of the guys you'll see hit the field Friday night will have that thought in the back of their minds.

When the game kicks-off, it's all about leaving it on the field one last time, marking an end to an unprecedented season.

"It's kind of exciting because I didn't get a chance to play against other teams during the season due to COVID," said De'Andre Francis, a running back for Team Florida. "It's going to be a good week to play with the guys I didn't get to play against."

"It's pretty good to just have fun coming out here having fun playing games with people that want the same goal as me," added Ronnie Baker, a quarterback from Team Georgia.

This year's edition of War of the Border kicks off at 6:30 p.m. Friday night at the Jackets Nest in Thomasville.
