BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WTXL) — For high school softball teams in Georgia, there are only eight teams left in each classification. The Bainbridge Lady Cats are one of those Elite Eight in AAAA.
They'll have their work cut out for them as they host two-time defending State Champion Heritage Tuesday. Head coach Christopher Bryant said to expect a pitcher's duel, as Bainbridge ace Lexie Delbrey is committed to Florida and Generals pitcher Rachel Gibson is a Clemson commi, and fans should be ready for a close game that goes down to the very last inning.
"A lot of what we've been hearing is 'oh they have a Clemson commit pitcher.' Well, you know, we're sitting here with a Florida commit," he said Monday. "It's going to be a big future ACC/SEC rivalry game here this week. This could very easily be one, no more than two run games. Two dominant pitchers, take care of the errors, take care of the little things and one or two runs win it."
Game one of their best of three series with Heritage is set for a 5:00 first pitch in Bainbridge. Also in AAAA, Thomas County Central is on the road, playing at 4:00.
In A, Lanier County is playing the if necessary game Tuesday at 1:00 against Commerce. Winner goes to the Final Four, while Lowndes is at home against Archer in AAAAAAA. First pitch for the Vikettes is at 5:00.
