VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) — 6A Region 1 football is no joke. The past three state champs have come through the region and Valdosta head coach Alan Rodemaker fully expects that to happen again this year.

He's hoping they're the team to beat. The Wildcats are our next man up for our Friday Night Overtime Camp Chat.

Valdosta is the first of those three state titles for Region 1 in 2016. This senior class were freshmen and speaking of seniors, there's not a lot of them.

Coach Rodemaker says on offense, his son Tate is at quarterback, Jaheem Bell at tight end and at receiver Tarrell Roberts. Those three the only returning starters on offense.

Defense is young too, and that's where they're really looking to improve.

"I thought we struggled in the first game, in the scrimmage. Even in the first game son. I don't think we ever got our confidence last year. Hopefully we can start the season, start our scrimmage better and start the season better against Jackson where we have some confidence entering the season," said Coach Rodemaker. "If we have a fold, it's probably we have too much confidence on the offense right now, because we have a lot of new faces over there. I think confidence is a big thing with young people."

Valdosta kicks off the regular season on August 23 at home but they'll travel to Glynn Academy on August 9 for a fall scrimmage.
