TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - The 23rd of August marks the start of the high school football season for teams in South Georgia and in North Florida. The FAMU DRS Baby Rattlers are coming off a good spring, and they're ready now for a good fall. Head coach Cedric Jones entering year three at his Alma Mater, and says this may be the fastest team that he's had since he's been back.

They'll be young in some spots, as they lost a talented senior class, but coach notes the young guys also played a lot last season. The Baby Rattlers have a tough schedule, and a big key in staying on top of it will be staying healthy.

"Early on you have to try to protect the kids so they don't lose it early," he said. "If we can keep them protected and surround them with the veterans we do have, I feel like the season can go a little smoother than it would if we had a bunch of young kids that were coming in and you didn't have anything to hide them behind."

FAMU DRS opens the regular season at home against Florida High on August 23rd.
