TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - On Thursday night, boys basketball teams in the state of Florida began Regional play, and the goal? To win, and inch closer to a berth at the State Finals in Lakeland.
In Class 7A, the District 2 Champion Lincoln Trojans hosted Navarre in the Quarterfinals, and jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, winning 66 to 43. Lincoln will host Leon in Tuesdays Regional Semifinals, as the Lions defeated Niceville 79-70 on the road.
In Class 5A, Rickards cruised to a win over Rutherford 67 to 48 to set up a rematch with Godby, who handled by 75-37.
East Gadsden hosted Pensacola Catholic in the Class 4A Region 1 Quarterfinals on Thursday, and walked away with the big win, 62-50. In Class 3A, Maclay saw their season end Thursday night with a 62-32 loss to Trinity Christian. In Class 2A, FAMU DRS picked up the 61-30 win over Christ's Church Academy.
Class 1A schools are a game ahead of everyone else, and hit the floor in Regional Semifinal action Thursday night. West Gadsden, moves ahead in Region 3, as they beat Baker 80-44. In Region 4, Hamilton County defeated Newberry 72-52, and will face Hawthorne in Tuesday's Final, who defeated Madison County 57-45.
