VALDOSTA, Ga. (WTXL) - Thursday night was one to remember for the Valdosta State men's basketball team. The men picked up a big 17 point win over Delta State, which kept them in a tie for first place with Alabama-Huntsville in the Gulf South Conference.

It was also a big night for another season, as head coach Mike Helfer picked up win number 400 as a collegiate head coach.

It's a night that will go down in the books, but it's a win that signifies much more than just a number.

"It's all about players, if you don't have good players you are not going to win a lot of games," he said Friday at practice. "When you have that kind of milestone achieved, it's more about the players than it is about the coaching in my opinion. It was special for that to happen with this group, you can say the 400, but I would like the say the Delta State being in first place with us, the importance of the game, that was important, so this is a special group and I'm glad that it happened with this group."

Coach Helfer will look for win number 401 on Saturday when they host Mississippi College.
