TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Godby Cougar boys basketball team is undefeated and fresh off an Eastbay Division Tarkanian Classic Championship in Las Vegas. The team got back on Wednesday and they are riding some serious momentum as they break for Christmas.

The Cougars went 4-0 en route to the title, an improvement from last year's appearance, when they dropped one game. The guys agree that last year's loss was a motivator this season, and was it ever.

The Cougars beat a defending State Champion, two undefeated teams, and the number one team from the state of Utah.

Senior Corbin Merritt earned Tournament MVP honors, and Montre and Montreal Edwards were named to the All-Tournament Team, all things they're hoping carry them to a State Championship.

"We're from Florida and we go all the way to California and win the whole tournament and I got MVP?" said Merritt. "It's big timing right there. We just went out there and played hard and played strong. We didn't think about playing against a better team, we were just thinking about winning."

"We practiced hard so I expected us to go out there and do what we were supposed to do," said Montre Edwards. "The goal was to go out there and make a statement and everybody is counting us out this year, expecting us to not make the State Championship and do what we're supposed to do to win."

Godby returns to action January 3rd when they travel to Suwannee.
