TALLAHASSEE, Fl. (WTXL) - Rickards grad Corey Fuller coached five seasons at East Gadsden High School in two seperate stints, reaching the State Semifinals in 2011.
In December of 2016, he was named head coach at Godby, where he's spent the last two years, going 21-3.
On Monday night, Fuller posted a photo to his Instagram with the caption: "From me and my family, thanks Godby football for a great ride."
On Tuesday, Fuller was formally introduced as the new head coach at Gadsden County, a position he said he is excited to be in, and a position he feels like brings him home.
"It makes it a lot easier when the principal, superintendent, the county sheriff calls and says come home," he said Tuesday. "I'm from Leon County. I've had the American dream as a kid that I think I lived it to fruition right in front of those people. One thing I knew is they embrace it over here. They embrace my style of coaching, my style of loving on kids, my style of trying to discipline kids, they embrace it over here with open arms."
One of the reasons Fuller left East Gadsden in 2016 was the lack of resources at the school. He said Tuesday though that he doesn't think that'll be a problem this time around.
"Because of the commitment that's coming from the top, I'm going to get more involved in the community, the churches, the businesses and all," he said. "We can't let people keep taking from the community but not giving back to the school. We're going to get our kids more involved in the community this time around, so I've learned a lot from me being gone for two years and watching other type of coaches in the same type settings."
Fuller is also taking a full time position with Gadsden County schools as the Coordinator of Health, Safety, and Drug Free Schools.
As far as Fuller's replacement at Godby? Athletic Director Jackie Burkette told WTXL this morning they've hit the ground running, and hope to have someone in soon.
